Food Storage Fun!

The Prophets of our church have always counselled us to have a year's supply of Food Storage as we are able to build it up. We are counselled to have a Food Storage so that we may use it in times of emergency or hardship. For example, we used quite a bit of our food storage while I was on Maternity Leave while things were a bit tight, so that we didn't need to spend as much on our weekly groceries. Food Storage is typically made up of things that your family like and would normally eat, and also things that store well. Everything is dated and rotated, and ideally replaced as it is used.

Our food storage was quite low, so this year we decided to set aside some of our tax rebate money to top up our food storage.

Tonight Matthew and I went shopping for food storage stuff... it was so much fun! The look on some people's faces were hilarious! I loved it. It was even funnier when we got to the checkout... I asked the checkout girl if she had ever seen a person with so many cans... This was the conversation that followed....

Checkout Girl: "is this all for your shop"
Me: "nope we don't have a shop"

Checkout Girl: "your home"

Me: "yip, it's our food storage"

(Checkout girls mouth opens so wide in amazement)

Checkout Girl: "do you live far away"

Me: "nope, we just like to keep things stocked up"

She wasn't really sure what to say about that. So I said to her: "and we don't even have heaps of kids to feed all this food to"! The look on her face this time was even better.

The supervisor at the end of the checkout was pretty amazed as well!
So anyway here's a couple of pics of what the conveyor belt looked like:

Noodles and Pasta - 2 of the necessities in our houseVarious cans of fruit, tomatoes, spaghetti, sauces, tuna and other things - also necessities. We also brought a few meats so our freezer is well stocked now. We just need to get our rice but found a better deal somewhere else rather than at a supermarket - yip we're bargain hunters!
Check out the longest receipt we've ever had!

How is your Food Storage going?
